On April 15th, we finally got to say, “That’s a wrap!” — and officially close the books on another tax season. While a handful of extensions remain on the horizon, the heavy lift is behind us, and that means it’s time to reflect.

Every season teaches us something. This year, a few themes stood out loud and clear.

Chat bubble iconCommunication — a two-sided conversation

We provide many of our clients’ CPAs with Year-End Packages, and the quality of those packages is directly tied to how well communication flows between bookkeeper and client throughout the year — not just at year-end.

Here’s what that looks like in practice: our bookkeepers carefully review transactions, identify recurring charges, and work to determine whether they represent subscriptions, rent, loans, or other liability payments. When we spot a liability, we need the details behind it to record everything correctly.

Sometimes recurring transactions need a few months before a clear pattern emerges. That’s normal — and it’s why we monitor continuously, not just at quarter-end.

We also keep an eye out for large purchases that may qualify as assets and reach out for new vendor W-9s early so there are no 1099 surprises come January.

Our quarterly information requests aren’t just about paperwork. They’re touchpoints — opportunities to stay connected, catch anything outstanding, and make sure your records are accurate and complete well before deadlines arrive.

Stopwatch iconTime crunch — and it’s getting tighter

This was the defining challenge of 2025. CPAs are requesting Year-End Packages earlier and earlier, which means the window between closing the books and filing returns keeps shrinking.

Our response: stay current all year. When we keep pace with your business activity on a rolling basis, there’s no mad scramble in January. The work is already done — or close to it.

When you respond quickly to bookkeeper questions about uncategorized transactions or missing documents, it creates a ripple effect — your CPA gets cleaner books, your return gets filed faster, and everyone’s stress level drops.

Timely communication isn’t just helpful — it’s the single biggest factor in how smoothly tax season goes for everyone involved.

Telescope iconLooking ahead

2025 taxes are behind us, but we’re already deep into your 2026 bookkeeping. Our goal hasn’t changed: to keep you organized, informed, and prepared throughout the year — not just when deadlines are looming.

As our quarterly reminders come your way, treat them as easy wins. A quick response now means one less thing to chase down later.

Questions about your books or the year-end process? Reach out to your bookkeeper anytime — we’re here year-round, not just in tax season.
